Make It-Take It Tournaments
Offer Chance To Play where the Sidekicks Play

North Texas youth soccer teams will have the chance to step on the same field, compete in the same venue, and play where the Dallas Sidekicks play in 2012, thanks to the Sidekicks Make It-Take It Tournaments, sanctioned by North Texas Soccer.

Different age groups of area youth soccer teams will be able to compete in the 12-team, single-elimination tournament at Allen Event Center on several afternoons this season, prior to the corresponding evening's Sidekicks game.

"Since the ‘80s at Reunion Arena, North Texas soccer players have been playing on the Dallas Sidekicks turf on game days," said Jim Tolbert, minority owner and the Sidekicks' director of ticket sales.

The tournaments will take place at Allen Event Center on four separate dates from Dec. 15, 2012, to Feb. 23, 2013. All dates will be on a Saturday or Sunday, and four hours will be scheduled for the daytime tournaments. Youth soccer team can range in age from Under-6 through Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14, with the number of players on the field at one time variable by age. Each team is allowed up to 15 players.

Tournament games consist of a seven-minute, sudden-death period, in which the first team to score a goal moves on. The tournament is based on points, with two points for a win, and one point for each team in the event of a draw.

The two teams with the highest scores following the preliminary rounds will play for the tournament title in a full, seven-minute match, with the winner being declared the tournament champion.

In order to qualify for the tournament and play on the Sidekicks field, each competing team must purchase at least 40 tickets that same day's Sidekicks game.

The Dallas Sidekicks are working with North Texas youth soccer associations to promote the game of soccer, and to gain a new generation of Sidekicks fans for the upcoming return season in the PASL.

"Dallas Sidekicks Make It-Take It tournaments have created memorable experiences for soccer players of all ages over the past four decades," Tolbert said. "We are excited about bringing these exciting tournaments back to the North Texas soccer community."
