Sidekicks Help Develop Skills of Future Stars

With the summer fast approaching and the Dallas Sidekicks settling into their long offseason before returning in November, players are turning their attention to the future stars of the game. From June to August, former star defenseman and current assistant coach Nick Stavrou will be joined by former midfielder Kevin Smith to continue the Sidekicks' tradition of helping advance both the indoor and outdoor game in DFW, by directing a series of instructional camps throughout the area. They will lead camps with current and past Sidekicks players, giving youth competitors the unique experience of learning from the pros.

“We designed the camps so there is something for everyone regardless of their skill level.” Stavrou says. “As a group, we love mentoring and passing on our knowledge to these kids who will go on to do great things in our sport.”

Camp curriculum is centered around the fundamentals of passing, controlling, dribbling, shooting, heading and defending. All skills are then emphasized in small-sided scrimmages with fellow campers and coaches. Autograph sessions are performed at the end of each day as the Sidekicks players rotate from camp to camp.

“We like to change it up so each day is unique and campers get to learn something new,” Stavrou says. “Our team is full of passionate, seasoned coaches and it’s always fun for us and the campers to bring all of these minds together to share knowledge and practical experience.”

Each camper will receive a free t-shirt and soccer ball, plus a ticket to a 2015-16 regular season home game to see their instructors in action. Camps this summer will be held all across the metroplex, from June 22 to August 21. To find a camp near you, visit
