2012A Winning Start for Dallas Sidekicks in Comeback Season
With an undefeated record of 6-0 and PASL-high attendance, the Dallas Sidekicks are proving that they are back to continue the franchise’s storied indoor soccer tradition.
With an 84.6-percent penalty kill and 67 goals in six games, Dallas remains one of only two undefeated teams in the PASL. The Sidekicks’ largest margin of victory this season has been 20 goals, and the team has never found itself trailing against an opponent. With an average home attendance of 5,428, the Sidekicks have found a welcoming reception back to DFW and a solid home at the Allen Event Center.
“We are thrilled that soccer fans have so readily embraced us back,” Sidekicks majority owner Ronnie Davis said. “We have exceeded our expectations on and off the field, especially when it comes to attendance. We are working hard to continue to grow our fan base throughout DFW.”
The Sidekicks began the season with a 6-2 win at home against the Harrisburg Heat on Nov. 3, the Allen Event Center packed with 5,909 fans. Carlos Videla scored Dallas’ first goal of the season, with Kiley Couch earning the first assist.
Fans found themselves in a frenzy on Dec, 15 when the Sidekicks returned home and beat the Texas Strikers 21-1, the most goals scored in franchise history. The Sidekicks broke a myriad of additional team records, including the team’s fastest power-play goal — scored just one second in — and the most goals scored through three quarters, at 14. The team also had four separate hat tricks from Mbemba, Michael Uremovich, Shaun David and RJ Luevano. Chad Deering and Renato Pereira scored two goals apiece, and Jamie Lovegrove, Cody Ellis, Sean Bellomy and Ricardinho each contributed one goal.
Mbemba has scored three hat tricks in his last three games, which puts him at the top of the Sidekicks leaderboard with 13 goals and four assists, through the team’s first six games. Uremovich, David and Renato share the second spot with 12 total points each. Goaltender Sagu has been a force in front of the net this season, stopping 66 of 78 shots and earning a .846 save percentage.
“We could not have asked for a better beginning to the season,” Head Coach Tatu said. “The team is performing well, and hopefully we can continue on this path and find just as much success in 2013."
