Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Will Entertain the “World of Soccer” in 2013
DALLAS, Texas - In continuing with the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup tradition of bringing the best teams from around the globe, Executive Director Gordon Jago is pleased to announce the first member of the Dallas Cup XXXIV Gordon Jago Super Group.
2012 English Premier Academy League Champion Fulham FC has accepted the invitation to participate in the 2013 Gordon Jago Super Group. The famous club from southwest London will be making their first trip to the Dallas Cup in 2013, becoming the third-straight Premier Academy League champion to headline the Super Group. The Cottagers’ upcoming trip to Dallas Cup XXXIV continues the long-standing relationship between the tournament and England’s Premier League, giving the U.S. fans an opportunity to see the future stars of soccer.
“We are thrilled to be attending the thirty-fourth Dr Pepper Dallas Cup,” says Fulham FC Academy Director, Huw Jennings. ”We were very disappointed to miss out on a trip to Dallas when we finished runners-up in the 2011 Premier Academy League. We were, therefore, delighted that we won the championship in 2012 in the knowledge that it would give us the opportunity to compete in the Dallas Cup.
“I have visited the Cup before and know how excellent the standard is on and off the pitch,” he adds. “We are aware that Fulham is well-known to the people of Texas through the connection with our former player Clint Dempsey, and we hope to show that we have a number of talented young players to look out for in the future.”
This season’s talented U18 squad is off to a blazing 4-0-1 start and has a name that will be known to the North Texas soccer scene. Emerson Hyndman, grandson of FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman, joined Fulham FC Academy this past spring and has been big contributor to Fulham Academy’s early success.
“Having Fulham FC participate in Dr Pepper Dallas Cup thirty-four gives me a ‘double pleasure,’ in that it brings a first-class youth academy team to our tournament, and in that Fulham was my first coaching appointment in the English First Division,” says Dallas Cup Executive Director Gordon Jago. “To have the opportunity to work with top soccer international players the likes of Johnny Haynes, Bobby Robson, George Cohen and Allan Clarke at that time in my coaching career was a great experience.”
With still a month to go before the international team application period is closed, the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIV has already confirmed a number of youth soccer teams from around the world, including U13 Crewe Alexandra (England), U15 St. Ann Rogers FC (Trinidad and Tobago), U16 Aalborg BK (Denmark), U17 Royal York FC (Canada), and U19 Eintracht and Frankfurt (Germany). In all, teams from 10 different countries have applied for the Super Group.
The week-long tournament, welcoming teams from around the world, takes place Mar. 24-31, 2013.
“The playing fields of Dallas will host a multitude of foreign languages at the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup”,” stated Tournament Manager Randy Jones. “With four more weeks to apply, we will have over 20countries represented before the final list is completed. It’s a nice recognition of the status of Dr Pepper Dallas Cup in the world of youth soccer.”
Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIV runs from March 24-31, 2013. Stay tuned for future updates including further teams of the Gordon Jago Super Group and Game schedules.
