Stellar Sagu Has Sidekicks
Ready to Rock in 2013-14

When the Dallas Sidekicks announced their comeback last year, one name that longtime fans were excited to see return was All-Star goaltender Sagu. The Brazilian native spent five seasons with the original Sidekicks and helped the team win a championship in 2001. After a successful run with the MISL’s Baltimore Blast, Sagu says that his decision to return to Dallas was an easy one. His stellar play throughout the 2012-13 season helped the Sidekicks win their division, and earned him the second spot in voting for the PASL’s MVP. He finished the season with a league-best 3.56 GAA.

Get to know the Sidekicks’ No. 1 as he answers questions about his and the team’s goals for the upcoming season and why he is glad to be back in the Lone Star State.

Q: Have you enjoyed being back in Texas?
A: My professional career began in Dallas and I want it to end there, too. I spent eight years in Baltimore and I really liked it there, but was always thinking about coming back to Dallas. I have found my second home here.

Q: What do you think of the soccer atmosphere in North Texas?
A: People in general are very nice here, and there are so many opportunities when it comes to soccer. Dallas is a great place to be a coach. When I retire, I am going to stay here and continue coaching. I have played soccer for a long time and I am passionate about taking everything I have learned and passing it on to younger generations.

Q: How have you been keeping busy during the offseason?
A: I have been spending a lot of time with my family and friends, having barbecues and watching a lot of sports (especially the Mavericks). Coaching takes up a lot of my time too.

Q: What are you doing to prepare for the upcoming season in November?
A: I work out on a regular basis, and coaching helps keep me fit. As a team, we are about to start getting into some intense training. We are prepared to work hard because we want to be as fit as possible to be ready for a long season.

Q: What are your personal goals for the 2013-14 season?
A: To do my part to help make us champions. Every season that is what we are working for. We are always pushing ourselves to be better, and we want to bring a championship back home to Dallas.

The Dallas Sidekicks will kick off their 2013-14 season on November 2nd at the Allen Event Center. Tickets for the home opener, as well as season tickets, are on sale now.
