Busy Summer Helps Sidekicks Prep for Exciting Season Ahead
The Sidekicks have had a busy month of July preparing for the upcoming 2016-17 MASL season, and have an even busier month of August on the way. In July, Dallas played the Fort Worth Vaqueros in both an outdoor friendly and in the PASL U.S. Open Regional Cup tournament. In August, the Sidekicks have a number of events as the team continues to prepare for their home opener on Oct. 29 at the Allen Events Center.
On July 30, the Dallas Sidekicks traveled to Fort Worth to take on the Vaqueros of the NPSL. It was the Vaqueros Fan Appreciation Night and they had been scheduled to play OKC Energy's U-23 side, but the Energy unexpectedly withdrew from the match earlier in the week, putting the Fan Appreciation Night match in jeopardy. In a mixture of good timing, good fortune and good relationships, the Sidekicks were able to put a team together to ensure that the Vaqueros could have the Fan Appreciation Night experience their fans deserved. Dallas scored the first two goals, but the hosts were able to claw their way back into the match and tied the game late in the second half.
August will be a busy month for the Sidekicks ,as the team is inviting media, sponsors and season-ticket holders to a Brand Reveal Party on Aug. 27 at Fieldhouse USA. The team will be showing off new, customized, green-and-white jerseys that will break the mold from the solid-color block jerseys seen last season. The jersey will have the MASL patch and new team logo, which we will be revealed then. We will also be revealing this year’s kit partner.
In addition to the matches in late July, Sidekicks coaches Simon Bozas and Nick Stavrou have been working with the returning players and a handful of trialists to lay the foundation for another successful season, that hopefully will see a return to the playoffs. After the Brand Reveal Party, the team will scrimmage so that the public can see the progress of the team.
The Brand Reveal Party will be a private event for VIPs and season ticket holders, but the scrimmage will be open to the public. Tickets to the scrimmage will be $5 per person. The scrimmage will begin at 7 p.m.
While the brand, tagline and logo have changed to better represent what the company is today, the Dallas Sidekicks values proposition remains the same – our combination of customer engagement and customer service remains unique, and enables us to develop long-lasting relationships with our fans.
The Dallas Sidekicks play their home opener on Sat., Oct. 29. With less than 90 days until the home opener, the team is starting to hold more training sessions and tryouts on a monthly basis.
The team has two more tryouts this off-season. Session Two is on Thurs., Aug. 18, from 9 a.m.-Noon, and Session Three is Thurs., Sept. 1, also from 9 a.m.-Noon. There is a participation fee of $50, which includes a ticket for the 2016-17 season. Tryouts will be located at Inwood Soccer Center, 14801 Inwood Rd, Addison, Tex. The team will be holding all of their official team practices at the Fieldhouse this year.
The Dallas Sidekicks are offering their annual instructional camps throughout the DFW area, including Soccer Spectrum. Youth players aged 5-12 will have the unique opportunity to perfect their skills alongside professional soccer players. The camp program will be directed by former Sidekicks all-star defender and current Assistant Coach Nick Stavrou, as well as past and present Sidekicks.
