Sidekicks Wrap Up Successful Summer League
For the Dallas Sidekicks’ young talent, the offseason so far has been a time of growth and team building. Lead by Head Coach Tatu, several former rookies came together with a slew of newly discovered prospects to form the Sidekicks Premier, a team that competed throughout June and July in the PASL Premier Men’s Summer 2013 league. With a winning record of 7-1, players were able to build confidence and improve their overall game.
“Being able to keep playing indoor competitively during the offseason gave me a chance to keep up with my fitness, as well as get a lot of experience and more touches on the ball,” said forward Jamie Lovegrove.
Participating in the summer league was not only a way for the Sidekicks’ young players to further develop their skills, but also a chance to take on leadership roles for the first time.
“As a teammate, it was great for me and some of the other guys like Cody Ellis, Milo and Sean Bellomy to get the chance to be leaders,” Lovegrove said. “It was kind of a test for us to help the new players learn the game and improve their skills, which is funny because we were in their shoes a year ago.”
New players included several prospects discovered at open tryout sessions held throughout the offseason. These players were given the chance to show their potential in front of Tatu and work to earn a spot on the 2013-14 Dallas Sidekicks.
“We definitely found some talent that we will consider when choosing the roster for next season,” Tatu said. “Overall, the games were a good way for the guys to gain more experience, and a bonus for all of the fans who miss us during the summer.”
Excited for the rare chance to see their team in action during the offseason, Sidekicks fans packed the small venues to cheer on players both old and new.
“Our fans are so dedicated, and that showed when we had tons of people who were even willing to travel out to the road games,” Lovegrove said. “It helps boost our confidence when we’re playing, and it was great to see them before the season starts.”
The Dallas Sidekicks will kick off the 2013-14 season on Nov. 2 at the Allen Event Center. Season tickets are currently on sale. For more information, visit www.dallassidekicks.net or call 214-550-6130. Follow the team on Twitter @GoSidekicks or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/GoSidekicks.
