Time to Schedule Fall Coaching Clinics

Fall clinic calendar mixes favorite courses with new and updated offerings for all age groups

Yes, the fall soccer season is just around the corner and it is time to begin scheduling coaching clinics for the various ages in the associations. This fall, there will be the short continuation of existing coaching clinics, new and updated coaching clinics, and a new mechanism for the delivery of Coaching Manuals and Field Activities Manuals.

For the U6-U8s, the traditional classroom “G” Coaching Clinic will be offered until the supply of existing manuals is exhausted. The Novice Coach Vol. 1 DVD will still be given to each coach. The Laws of the Game Made Easy booklet will be given to each coach until the current inventory is exhausted.

The Laws of the Game Made Easy is now available to coaches and parents in an association. It can be downloaded from the North Texas Soccer web site in two locations, one for coaches and another for referees.

If you are a new and/or first-time parent volunteer/coach or a returning coach, you can attend an On-Line Coaching Education Clinic for the U6-U8. This On-Line Coaching Education Course is offered through US Youth Soccer. Coaches can take the lecture (theory) part of the U6-U8 Youth Coaching Module at their leisure. To register for the On-Line Coaching Education Clinic, visit this web site.

After completing the lecture portion, coaches may register for a Field Training Event to complete the course requirement for their U6-U8 Youth Coaching Module Certificate. Those coaches attending the Field Training Event will each receive a copy of the Novice Coach Vol. 1 DVD.

Associations wishing to host a Field Training Event must first complete the Youth Module Field Request form (Excel Spreadsheet) and send it to the North Texas office. Then, encourage your coaches to take the online course and register themselves into the Field Training Event scheduled at your association. All coaches must complete the online portion before attending a Field Training Event.

When the inventory of the “G” Coaching Manual is exhausted, this Coaching Clinic will be replaced by an updated U6-U8 Youth Module Coaching Clinic, a traditional classroom clinic. The U6-U8 Youth Module Coaching Manual and Field Activities Manual have each moved to a downloadable format from the North Texas Soccer web site. Each coach will be given the download site by the On-Site Coordinator. They should bring the manual with them to the clinic in either a printed or electronic format. The On-Site Coordinator should also have several manuals printed for “walk-in” attendees. The Novice Coach Vol. 1 DVD will still be given to each coach attending this coaching clinic.

For the U9-U10s, the “F” Coaching Clinic will be available until the inventory of coaching manuals is exhausted. This coaching clinic will be replaced with an updated U9-U10 Youth Module Coaching Clinic. The Novice Coach Vol. 2 DVD will still be given to each coaching attending this coaching clinic. The U9-U10 Youth Module Coaching Manual and Field Activities Manual have each moved to a downloadable format from the North Texas Soccer web site. Each coach will be given the download site by the On-Site Coordinator. They should bring the manual with them to the clinic in either a printed or electronic format. The On-Site Coordinator should also have several manuals printed for “walk-in” attendees.

An On-Line Coaching Education Coaching Clinic for the U10-U12s is scheduled to be available from US Youth Soccer sometime this year. The format will be the same as the other On-Line Coaching Clinic: attend the lecture (theory) portion online at the coaches’ leisure, then attend a Field Training Event to complete the course.

For the U12s, associations can schedule a new coaching clinic, the U12 Youth Module Coaching Clinic. This Youth Module has topics and field activities that are applied to this age group and can be instructed “up” to cover older age groups. The coaching manual can be downloaded from the North Texas Soccer web site. Field Activities for this age group are also in a downloadable format.  Each coach will be given the download site by the On-Site Coordinator. They should bring the manual with them to the clinic in either a printed or electronic format. The On-Site Coordinator should also have several manuals printed for “walk-in” attendees.

USSF National Coaching Schools, both the “E” and “D,” can be hosted by local associations. To host one of the National Coaching Schools, complete the Request Form for the desired Coach School and submit it to North Texas. For all National Coaching Schools, candidates’ registration and payment is made through the North Texas Soccer web site. Pre-course work is required for both of these coaching schools. Candidate guidebook or course manuals are in a downloadable format from the U.S. Soccer web site, www.ussoccer.com.

North Texas will host a National “C” Coaching School in August this year. See the North Texas Soccer web site for information on these National Coaching Schools.

North Texas also offers a Coaching Education service that was introduced at last year’s AGM, the “Coaches Field Clinic.” In this clinic, coaches participate in age-specific activities as requested by the association. Sessions are 1.5 hours long with up to three sessions per day. No license or certificate is awarded in this clinic. To request a Coaches Field Clinic, click here (Word Document).

For the associations wishing to request a coaching clinic, visit the Coaching Form area under the Administrative pull-down menu on the North Texas Soccer web site. Then select the coaching clinic(s) you wish to request, complete the request form and send both the form and deposit to the office. The North Texas staff will take it from there!
