North Texas Sends 10 Teams to Nationals!

Twenty-one teams represented North Texas and their North Texas clubs at the US Youth Soccer Region III Championship tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with six winning their age group and a spot in the National Championship in Phoenix, Ariz.!

North Texas' domination was accentuated by the fact that none of the other 11 state associations won more than two titles.

The U15 and U19 girls' championships were guaranteed to have North Texas winners, as both finalists were North Texas teams. In the U15 age group, D'Feeters 96 fought it out with Sting 96, with Sting 96 coming out on top.

The U19 age group matched up old foes Dallas Texans 92 and Sting 92. Scoreless after 90 minutes, Samantha Howell finally put Sting in front with a goal four minutes into extra time, but Alyssa Diggs equalized for Dallas Texans just two minutes later. Just when a penalty shootout seemed inevitable, Amanda Frisbie beat several defenders off the dribble to score a decisive winner for Texans just five minutes from time, carrying her team to a 2-1 win and a return trip to July's US Youth Soccer National Championships.

The following teams won Regionals and are on their way to Nationals in Phoenix:

GirlsBoys
Sting 96Solar 96
Sting 97Dallas Texans 97
Dallas Texans 92Dallas Texans 92

Other teams did very well, with Sting 95 losing a close match to National League champions Hurricane FC 95 of Oklahoma in the finals. Sting 95 will be representing North Texas in Nationals as the Regional representative, hoping to repeat their 2010 National Championship performance.

Dallas Texans 96 boys advanced to the semi-finals where they faced their North Texas rivals Solar 96. After double overtime and a shootout, Solar 96 advanced to the finals. Likewise, Dallas Texans 94 girls fell to Georgia by the slimmest of margins, losing only after double overtime and a shootout.

In addition to the teams mentioned above, North Texas is proud to have three National League champions who will also be representing North Texas and their clubs in Phoenix competing for the National title:

  • FC Dallas 96 Boys
  • Dallas Texans 95 Girls
  • Dallas Texans 94 Boys

Best of luck to the ten North Texas teams who will be in Phoenix at the end of July battling it out for the National Championship titles. For complete schedules and scores from the Region III Championships, visit US Youth Soccer's web site.
