97 Girls Olympic Development Program Players Receive International Exposure

Haley Berg, Danielle Greenlee, and Kayla McKeon represented NTX ODP on the 2013 97 GODP Region III team in Costa Rica. The competition included the U17 Costa Rica National team, with the other teams comprised of professional players from Costa Rica who play in the area. The 97 GODP Region III team finished 4-0, giving up only one goal.

Berg and McKeon both expressed how great the experience was and advised others who may have the opportunity to play in the event in the future to take advantage of it. They also participated in a community service project while at the event and felt it was inspiring. They said the regional coaches helped make the trip fun, especially zip-lining over the jungle, which they described as exhilarating.

"It was an amazing experience and great opportunity for me to develop my soccer skills," said Greenlee. "They played a much different style of play than we do. It is a beautiful and quick game. I was blessed to have been on an extraordinary team that played well together, and to have three awesome coaches from whom I learned a lot."

Overall, the girls commented that it was an honor to represent North Texas, and especially to win, which hasn't been done in seven years. The girls look forward to continuing their involvement in ODP and hope to have additional experiences abroad as the opportunities become available.
