Rowlett Soccer Association Hosts Referee Mentoring Session
On Sunday, Feb. 24, with support from North Texas Soccer Association, Rowlett Soccer Association held an on-site Referee Mentoring Session at the Rowlett City Park Fields.
Ali Hussein, RYSA Referee Development Director, coordinated the session. Those in attendance included:
During the two-hour session, the referees were divided into three groups based on experience and skill levels. The various teams scrimmaged on three separate fields and games were officiated by both experienced and inexperienced referees, while additional groups of referees watched the games from different viewpoints on the fields. This helped in facilitating the discussions around various topics, including:
The session was engaging to the referees, as it allowed them to watch live game action while positively critiquing referee actions on the field during each scrimmage. This also allowed the coaches to develop an understanding of what to do in certain game situations based on the set-plays that were executed several times to emphasize various points to the referees.
This was a very beneficial session to all attending referees, players, and coaches.
Many thanks to Fred Hiler (NTX State Referee Committee Chairman), Don Rupley (NTX Area Coordinator), Andy Upton (Mesquite Assignor and Referee), and Ali Hussein (USSF State Referee and RYSA Referee Development Director) for making this a successful event, and just in time for a great start of the 2013 spring soccer season for all four cities.
